Sue Gilbert, Director/Producer

Sue Gilbert is a director/producer based in Seattle. After attending Art Center College of Design in the 70s, she worked production on commercials, corporate films and ABC After School Specials. In 1982 she produced and directed Greenaway, an award-winning feature documentary about old-money wealth that aired on PBS four years in a row. She is passionate about films with compelling stories that touch the heart.

Book Sue GilbertBeyond Greenaway: The Legacy is Gilbert’s second feature, signaling her return to filmmaking after devoting many years to family life. She conducts workshops based on this film for businesses, schools and focus groups to help people examine their attitudes about both affluence and the role of their own backgrounds in shaping their values.

Greenaway (feature documentary, 50 minutes, 1982): official selection at the American Film Festival (Finalist, Long Documentary), Melbourne Film Festival, Margaret Mead Film Festival, Chicago Anthropological Film Festival, Houston International Film Festival (Gold Award, Best Woman Director), and Festikon (Netherlands). It subsequently aired on PBS and on Dutch television.

A Dance Fantasy (narrative, 7 minutes, 1984): official selection at the International Children’s Film Festival in Gijon, Spain.

The Perfect Cup (narrative, 7 minutes, 1984): aired on HBO and on airplanes.
